THE NIGHT AT THE LIED SHOWCASES THE WINNERS OF THE 2011 TALENT FOR TEAMMATES COMPETITION
The Lincoln TeamMates program is excited to partner with the Lied Center for Performing Arts to offer a night of fun and to showcase the talent of the winners of the 2011 Talent for TeamMates Competition. In celebration, the Lied Center is offering special discounts to TeamMates mentors and their mentees. Please call the Lied Center at (402) 472-4747 for more information.
The Talent for TeamMates Night at the Lied will take place on Saturday, February 18th at 7:30. Performers, Jae Hyun Lim and On Approach will take the Lied Stage as the opening acts for Cherish the Ladies.
Jae Hyun has been playing the violin since 2nd grade. His favorite part of performing is entertaining others with his music. "On Approach" is a three piece ensemble featuring Jim Rhian, Ory Wickizer and Sam Costello. They have been performing together since 2010 and got together because of their mutual love of playing music.
This great performance of Cherish the Ladies, features some of the finest Celtic dancers and musicians in all of the U.S. Cherish the Ladies is a unique, spectacular blend of virtuosic instrumental talents, beautiful Irish vocals, captivating arrangements and stunning step dancing.
Talent for TeamMates is one of Lincoln TeamMates signature events. It showcases the musical talent of all Lincoln school students. The students participate in two rounds of auditions and begin the selection process in a competition that features more than 300 student performers. Jae Hyun and the three members of "On Approach" were among the 19 finalist acts that represented their schools at the finale on Oct 23, 2011. Talent for TeamMates 2012 will be held on Thursday, Oct. 25, from 6 to 8 pm at St. Mark's Church, 8550 Pioneers.
Because of this exciting partnership, the Lied Center is pleased to offer special discounts on tickets for TeamMates Night at the Lied Center! Join us on February 18 at 7:30pm for the Talent for TeamMates winners followed by Cherish the Ladies.
TeamMates must register online in order to receive this special offer for tickets to enjoy the performances of the Talent for TeamMates Winners AND Cherish the Ladies! Tickets are just $10 for Adult Mentors (a 65% discount!) and Mentees are FREE. (The deadline for ordering tickets is Feb 15th at noon.)

Register for the YESS Mentor Academy
YESS or Youth Education and Support Services is a program designed to help youth ages 16 - 21 years old with education and employment. YESS helps young people to prepare for participation in the workforce by supporting eligible youth with the opportunities and resources.
The program helps students who need a little extra help to succeed to set educational goals and strategies to achieve them. It helps youth find a job and learn skills to keep it.
The program also has money available to help students with tuition, books and supplies and work related expenses. This program will show mentors how to help their students apply.

The program was created by Congress through the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA). In 2006, the City of Lincoln's Urban Development Department assumed the responsibility for administering the youth program. The City began providing services as the WIA Youth Program through One Stop Employment Solutions.
In 2009, WIA Youth Services changed its operating name to YESS - Youth Education and Support Services to more clearly reflect the services and population served. YESS is a federally funded program through the Department of Labor.

Tax Preparation Assistance
Calling All Parents of TeamMates High School Seniors:
The University of Nebraska is offering a special income tax preparation session to assist the parents of graduating seniors to complete their income tax forms. The income tax information is required for the student's and families to apply for scholarships and financial aid.
UNL is proactively providing this tax preparation assistance in order to assist as students and their families to receive financial assistance for college tuition, books, etc.
Pre-registration is requested*. Child care and translation services will be provided based on registration.
The Tax Preparation Assistance Days will take place Thursday, February 9 @ 5-8 and Sunday, February 12 @ 9-12
Location for assistance is the University of Nebraska East Campus Union, 3rd floor
Each Lincoln TeamMates family of a high school graduating senior will be contacted by Lincoln TeamMates staff to register the family and to ascertain the parents' preferred attendance date, if translation service or if child care is needed. For more information, call 402-436-1990.
